Ten Years of the Scottish Album of the Year Award
3D animation, Concept Design, Art Direction | TV explainer sequence and title sequence
Working with Inner Ear we produced a potted history animation that took a look back at the Scottish Album of the Year Award’s decade of achievements and an animated title sequence for BBC Scotland broadcast.
The animation provides a dynamic snapshot of the SAY Award’s impact, the artists it has supported and acknowledged and its inclusivity of Scottish arts beyond music, such as historic music venues and contemporary craftspeople, which could easily act as a high end, stand alone advert for all that the award programme has done for the creative industries in Scotland over its tenure.
Using the award’s logo hexagon form we created ten hexagons and filled them with items and footage specific to each year, from 2012 to 2021, and arranged them as a floating mobile form, the hexagons spun around to reveal various objects.
They included 3D models of the bespoke award trophies, made by Scottish designers and crafts people each year and given to all ten of the short list finalists to celebrate their success; video footage from the live award events, 3D models of the award ceremony host venues, such as The Usher Halls, Edinburgh, Paisley Town Hall, Film City Glasgow and the world famous signage from the Barrowlands Ballroom.
We used photoreal materials and textures that included a high polished metal, a vibrant neon palette, neon lighting and rich translucent finishes to emulate the vibrancy of the Scottish music scene and the award program that nurtures Scottish creative talent.
