Campfires
A New Way to Experience Music in a Fully Immersive Virtual World
Campfires redefines music discovery through interactive, gamified experiences, transforming passive listening into exploration, creativity, and social connection. Built in Unreal Engine, this innovative platform places users in fully immersive 3D environments, where they can move freely, engage with music-based mini-games, and interact with dynamic soundscapes.
At the heart of Campfires is an interactive digital space where music, play, and community come together. The platform features:
Five unique biome environments with a day-to-night lighting cycle, creating evolving atmospheres that reflect different moods and musical styles.
Customisable avatars, allowing users to express their individuality and engage in play-based interactions.
Real-time music streaming integration, enabling users to share and listen to tracks around a virtual campfire, deepening their connection to music and each other.
Spatial audio and dynamic soundscapes, ensuring that movement and proximity affect how players experience sound, making music feel truly immersive.
Collaborating with Grey Matter FM and Inner Ear Glasgow, SUUM’s multidisciplinary team of designers and developers, created a Proof of Concept model, exploring how virtual spaces can bridge the gap between artists, audiences, and music streaming services. With support from Innovate UK and Scottish Enterprise, SUUM Studio conducted early-stage R&D, prototyping, and technical development to push the boundaries of interactive music experiences.
Campfires is more than just a digital music platform—it’s a living, breathing world where users can meet, play, discover, and co-create culture around a shared love of music.
