Promoting Inclusion Through Visual Storytelling
Love Makes You Family
Client: Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD)
Work Type: 3D Animation, Motion Design & Visual Storytelling
Finalist project of the Scottish Design Awards 2021 in the Design For Good Category.
SUUM Studio created a multi-character, multi-environment animated campaign for Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD), designed to support training, communications, and marketing initiatives while promoting diversity and inclusion.
Our approach blended sensitive storytelling with bold, engaging design, ensuring the animation resonated with both professionals and the wider public. We developed a bright, high-contrast colour palette, sculptural character designs, and stylised environments set within familiar domestic spaces, reinforcing the animation’s emotional connection to real-life experiences.
Inspired by mechanical and automated systems, the world-building emphasised how every family situation is made up of many moving parts, reinforcing the animation’s central theme of understanding and support. To ensure maximum accessibility, we incorporated custom captions that aligned perfectly with the voiceover and soundtrack.
“The animation exceeded our expectations, helping us explain complex issues in an accessible and engaging way. It has been invaluable in building new partnerships and starting important conversations.”
