A Visual Journey Through Scotland’s Biggest Music Award

Scottish Album of the Year Award

Client: Inner Ear & Scottish Music Industry Association
Broadcast on: BBC Scotland, iPlayer
Work Type: 3D Animation, Concept Design & Art Direction

SUUM Studio created a sleek, contemporary 3D animation visualising the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award process—taking viewers on a wordless journey from call for entries to the winning album. Designed to reflect the diversity, innovation, and accessibility of Scotland’s music scene, the animation presents the award’s process as refined, professional, and inclusive.

Our approach focused on soft, atmospheric lighting and symbolic motion design, evoking the live energy of music performance. Set against a matte environment bathed in neon pink, baby blue, and smoky white hues, the animation unfolds with slow, steady pacing, guiding audiences through the awards process with a sense of elegance and anticipation.

To contrast the softer background, key figurative forms were rendered in high-gloss, reflective metallic finishes, reinforcing the prestige of the awards. The final animation premiered on BBC iPlayer as part of The 2020 Award Winner’s Story, providing a sophisticated visual anchor for the SAY Award’s national broadcast.
